Moraine Lake
Directions
Take Highway 1 from Calgary and turn left at the Lake Louise exit. Then follows the signs for Moraine Lake.
Story
We decided to stop at Moraine Lake while driving home from a house boating trip in BC as we were going to go right past it. There was a nearby forest fire that we saw an hour earlier that was leaving a lot of haze in the air that I hoped would make for interesting light.
We reached Moraine Lake just as the last rays of sun were hitting it for the day. You could even still see some of the haze from the forest fire.

Beautiful lake! Beautiful shot!
You sure do find beautiful spots.
Amazing! I wish I was there.

Oh my gosh, that lake is so beautiful.
You are spoiling me in the best way possible by your vision of this precious earth!
Well said, and I would have to second that!
I have been to Moraine Lake (23 years ago) and I am glad to see that it is still as lovely today.
I am a California born woman who has never been that far north and so when I view these spectacular views, everything in me open wide and lets it sooth the tender places.
That second shot is SPECTACULAR!!
Wow! What a sight!
wow what a shot – The world has some beautiful places
Love your images Patrick. Beautiful. You may want to consider watermarking them. If they are used without your permission at least you get some credit for your work. Best of luck with your hiking and photography!

I can’t wait to make it across the Pacific again; I’m going to have to seek out some of these picturesque spots for myself. Thank you for sharing these wonderfully evocative images. Happy hiking!

Love all your images, but that second one….wow. Nature at its best and you really captured it.
Breathtaking! You’ve captured it so beautifully, I feel like I am sitting on those rock staring at the scenery with my own eyes. Thank you.
It’s just fantastic.

You’ve put me in a position again of having to say what has already been said. I should comment more quickly – so that what I say sounds original. Nice stuff – ’nuff said? Thanks for the continued likes at my site. I consider folks like you my inspiration! Thanks much. D
breathtaking…. wow. Lovely
The lake is breathtaking! Just look at that blue!
Beautiful. I remember visiting there in 2002. Breathtaking!
That lake shot doesn’t even look real – unreal and stunning!
You are a very talented photographer! Beautiful photos! Thank you for stopping by my blog
It’s so hard to believe this is even real! Beautiful!
The lake is fabulous, great shot! You are really good with the camera in nature. The fire shot makes me uneasy since I live in an area where we just had terrible wildfires, destroying over 350 homes with two lives lost. I literally watched views like that daily until it all exploded one afternoon.
Fabulous lake shot! The fire shot makes me uneasy as I live in an area where we just had one of the worst wildfires in our history with over 350 homes lost and two deaths. I saw views like this daily, until the fateful afternoon when it roared over the ridge into our neighborhoods.
I gather from the name of the lake that it is fed from a glacier. That color blue reminds me of glacier melt water too.
Oscar
wow! the lake is so beautiful! woooow!
I wish I lived closer, I would love to just tag along and soak in the views and write about the deep thoughts nature has a tendency to bring on. It would be like Dharma Bums, Kerouac-style. Thanks as always for taking your readers to another place with your beautiful photography.
Your photos are simply breathtaking!
My husband and I LOVE Moraine Lake. We want to see it again! Thanks for the pic!
I would dare not fall asleep if my days were so filled with these beautiful images.

Wow, those are some beautiful photos. I am jealous of your camera and photography skills!
Oh – I love Moraine Lake, I think even more than Lake Louise. But only just.
We went through there in August, and there was one small forest fire at that point. They were letting people through with no trouble. Is this the same fire, I wonder??

We visited there, but it was still frozen. It’s a different kind of beauty.
Again, that is simply breathtaking. It’s Autumn here now in Manchester (UK) and seeing images like that certainly warms the heart.

That lake is unreal.
Ah I was just driving by there the other day! Quite the beautiful place.

My grandmother used to say I’m “built at the water” when I was a child and crying about something. Sometimes I cry easily, for example when I watch beautiful paintings or photos. Beauty makes me cry. It’s a relaxing kind of weeping though, and nothing to worry about.
I scrolled down here to tell you these photos were unreal. I wasn’t completely surprised to see the person who posted just before me had already used the word… because these photos are just that: unreal. Thanks for sharing. For some one who has a fervent love affair with the mountains, but rarely gets to go there, pictures like these salve a deep wound.
Glad you decided to stop, great shots!

Wow! This one surely is breathtaking. But that is certainly due not only to nature’s gifts, but also to the sensitivity of the “eyes” who shot it!
Congrats!
I’ll come by again to contemplate some more of your work.
Thanks for “discovering” me… Really don’t know how nor why… But thanks anyway ’cause this was the only way to get to know you and your great, astonishingly good work.

Hi Patrick, thanks for following my blog, I really appreciate it.
I absolutely love this photo of Moraine Lake, it really is amazing. I love photos and I think you need both a good camera and a good eye. I have neither, you definitely have both!!
Nevertheless I will continue to try to take photos and enjoy them. To be able to take photos like yours would be an awesome dream – definitely one for my blog!
That is so beautiful.
These photos are simply amazing! What breathtaking views:) The photos would be amazing in a calendar…do they come in a calendar?
The picture of the lake is among he most beautiful photographs I have seen recently.

Breath-taking. I just love your blog, and your awesome talent.
Beautiful shots! Thanks for the blog follow and the like on my post!
I wasn’t going to comment at first but after seeing all the photos I just had to say you certainly have an artistic eye. You seem to capture the right moment and angle, and there’s that whimsical aspect to your photos that make them so charming. I’d have to say I would put down all the things that everyone else has said, but would add why aren’t you more famous? I think your work certainly ranks with that of Ansel Adams. I also think your adventurous spirit is awesome and rewarding; however having to crap out in the wilderness is not my idea of a good time!
wow, absolutely stunning photo!
Wow! Beautiful photos – what an incredible place!
I’ve only seen the road from Vermont to Montreal and Montreal, I really need to go west and see some of the incredible scenery that you see regularly.
and this is soooo inspiring ….. as if i m there…. thank YOU for sharing your arts here.
Have you ever gotten any photos at Muncho Lake or Destruction Bay? Every time I’ve driven through Canada, they have blown me away with their beauty – and I’m from AK, so I’ve seen some pretty scenery in my day. If you haven’t been to either, it is worth a trip. Your photos are fantastic!
Love all your work!
Wow, is that blue for real? And that haze really does make for interesting light. Beautiful.
Beautiful!! We were there in July but was a rainy day
you have a gift for sharing awe, texture, light. I could take almost any one of your nature images and feel enough to write a poem. Few know how to use their eyes and encourage others to use theirs.
Your photos are amazing! The one you use for your blog is breathtaking! Thank you for visiting myimmanuel!
i keep losing my breath when i visit your blog, if this is what you can do then… man you can change the world!
This is beautiful!
Precious photos, I love them!
Absolutely stunning! You have an amazing talent!
Been close to that area, drove through Lake Louise when I moved up to Alaska back in 2003…loved it up there, so beautiful and really renews the soul.
Sentinel Pass is near there, is it not? I’ve been meaning to try that hike, do you know what it’s like?
Thanks for following my blog! You were my first official follower:) Amazing and inspiring pics. Thank you for bring the trails to us!
So amazing to have you following my blog, since yours is spectacular. I was always very wary of beginning this process because I didn’t want to do it to simply hop on the bandwagon, but in the end I wanted to have a journal for me, and me alone; if anyone took a shine to it then thats a plus. Absolutely adore your work. Bravo!
What a beautiful photograph! I’ve just set it as a background picture on my PC front screen.
amazing website, gorgeous shots! keep up the brilliant work .. I am so glad I dropped by!
Nature can shock and awe me like nothing else. If its ego reduction your after, go stand amongst the redwoods or peer down into the Grand Canyon.
That lake is just spectacular. We have a lot of small mountain lakes here in Colorado, but I’ve never seen one quite that color. Almost turquoise.
truly wonderful. so talented!
Great Photos!
Ahhh….I love Moraine so much. A hundred years ago (or more likely 30), my hubby worked there on an expansion of the facilities and we met that summer…..it has always been my favourite lake. Makes me homesick to see it…..
The second image is beyond this world. Lucky you to be able to spend time amidst such beauty.
As always stunning photographs. You capture more than just the landscape…the essence. +1
This is a beautiful picture of a beautiful lake!

I went to (west) Canada for the first time last summer and it was absolutely fantastic! But your pictures make it look even more beautiful – which is a challenge. Congratulations!
Incredible photos man. I was lucky enough to live in Lake Louise a few years ago and woke up to vistas like this every morning. Not until I saw THAT photo was I reminded of how stunningly beautiful the rockies are. I’ll be making regular visits to this site!
