Light Painting with Sparklers
Story
(I Love my VW Rabbit) Again, no Photoshop tricks in the image other than colour toning. For this shot you need a dark space. I used my garage with the lights off to minimize ambient light bleeding into the picture. I then setup my camera on a tripod and composed the shot how I wanted. The sparkler lasts roughly 1 minute so I used bulb mode and a remote shutter release. You want to make sure you use a small aperture to ensure an adequate depth of field. My brother and I did test runs with an unlit sparkler; the hard part is making sure you don’t walk between the sparkler and the camera. It took 3 or 4 tries/sparklers before I got the shot I wanted.

VERY Cool, Dude!
I Love It!!!
That is very cool!
Yea Digging that
Your photography is amazing, no matter what you are shooting!

I just read how you did it and I still don’t understand how it was done. And I don’t really care because that photo is awesome!

I’d try to recruit you if I was a VW advertising exec… judging by your last few photo installments you may have to consider changing your website name… you seem to have branched out a bit beyond hiking photos. All fantastic and inspiring. Thank you.

Wow your work is amazing!
This has nothing to do with hiking, and this kind of thing is likely to cause paint damage (burns) to the vehicle, but the photo is without a doubt amazing.

All your pictures are so cool. Thank you not only for sharing them but for always telling us HOW you get certain effects. It’s like a magician revealing his tricks. I am always showing them to my son who enjoys photography so he can experiment with his camera.
Don’t know how you do it but you do!
Thank you for the follow, following you back and awsome pics
I now know what will be that “unique” Christmas gift. My question is, you offer so many different formats to purchase from which one makes this car look great in a frame? Metallic, glossy, matte? I am looking at the 11X14 size. Thank you for the exquisite work you do, it makes my heart sing!!
Patrick! Your photography is so beautiful! thank you for visiting my blog, I hope you are learning and enjoying it…..xoxo
Amazing, again

Patrick,
Thank you for “liking” my post. How does a photographer find his way to blog such as mine?
Anyway, I am such an amatuer when it comes to photography, but I have a deep appreciation for your talent. These are most beautiful! I can’t wait to see more of this world through your lens and artistic eye.
Thank you!

Photography is a skill I would love to develop. You are very inspiring. I am a comedy writer that’s published in print. My editor has high standards and I am a novice. Any interest in sharing? Network to network. You get print I get my editor off my back. You can see my “homemade” shots on my blog. Thankfully it’s comedy, not photojournalism. You are very talented. http://1mtg.wordpress.com/.

I love doing painting with light. It’s fun to do in churches with great stained glass. I did one with a hand held spot light once set my camera indoors used altar lights and candle for the interior then walked outside with the spot light and stood at each pane for five minuets. Amazing shot.
WOW!!!!! <3
That is amazing!
This makes me want to get a remote shutter release for my EPL-1! Very creative and beautiful pic!

this beautiful picture put a smile on my face today … absolutly adore it. and I’m not even a fan of cars
Wow! You’ve just made me look at our VW (Golf) completely differently!
Try this with your living room furniture using a mini flashlight with colored filters on the light. It works best with film, but is possible with a good digital camera that allows bulb function.
You blow my mind. I love it.
Your photography is breathtaking! You should add a pinterest button
Love love love, you are inspiring me to try so much!
wow!
Have you sent this link to VW? I bet they’d love it! Nothin like seeing someone creating an “ode to” for something you worked hard on.
This is great, i am impressed
I have yet to try light painting, but I want to. Love the effect of the sparkler.
Inventive and artistic – great photo! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
HOLY Heckles! This is awesome! I love, love, love your photography. It has such soul and unique-ness to it. Never thought I would ever be lucky enough to see beauty like that. I love the one with the paint splatters, the one with the music sheet and the drop of water, the infared pic of the trees….oh heck, who am I kidding! I love them ALL. I just dabble in super up close pics of flowers, bugs and spiders, but thats nothing compared to your gift. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for the like of my blog too.
Wow! I’ve seen sparklers used as a frame before, which looked really beautiful, but this is really something else.
Very nice effect. Original and extremely eye-catching final result. Bravo!
That is so cool. I have to try that. Just awesome.
That is real cool. Great idea.
More creative genius! I love it.
