“You can go to heaven if you want. I’d rather stay in Bermuda.”
Background
My brother worked in Bermuda teaching sailing for a few summers and we used to go visit him. Ever since then, we have made it an annual trip and Bermuda has become one of my favourite places in the world to visit. Mark Twain once said, “You can go to heaven if you want. I’d rather stay in Bermuda.”
As soon as you land the first thing you will notice is the lush countryside dotted with brightly coloured white topped houses.
Once you leave the airport, you will take any number of small winding roads, that at times, can barely fit two cars wide, which is why many on the island choose to use scooters.
The beaches in Bermuda have amazing white and pink sand that lays between varying sized volcanic coves. Each beach has its own unique feel and you can walk from one to one quite easily.
These same beaches are even more amazing if you’re up early enough for sunrise.
The normally calm waters of Bermuda can get quite rough if a tropical storm or hurricane passes by the island.
The Gibbs hill lighthouse is located on the highest point on the island and is an interesting walk to get to it.

I’m looking to get a job over there sometime next year, for a year or two. I have friends that live there, some that lived here in Miami for school and others who come here annually as well.

The sunset and mist on the water–spectacular.
I visited Bermuda in the late 90′s for a honeymoon. The island is beautiful and would love to go back! The lighthouse wasn’t rusty when I was on top of it. The people? I’ve never seen so many friendly people in one place! I miss Bermuda…

These photos were remarkably beautiful. They were full of both contrast and life. They give the viewer a vivid connectio the scenery. For me personally, it reminded me of the places I have traveled, the smell of the fresh sea air, and the freedom that inspires.

Hello Patrick; thanks for liking my blog, mainly because it has led me to an epiphany. That little golden star that appeared in the top right of my web window is like the star that led the Three Kings to Bethlehem in search of their saviour, the baby Jesus; only I’m only one person (two if you count the fact that I’m a Gemini – a lot more if you listen to my friends and family) and you are not the baby Jesus, but your pictures are my saviour – particularly these ones of Bermuda. It’s not so much the pictures, but the great idea they’ve inspired. Looking at your pictures, and then looking out of the window in my Manchester apartment, through the sheet of torrential rain into the permaturely dark autumn sky having just seen on the news about the months worth of rain that fell overnight and flooded Hebden Bridge just a few miles away, I had this great idea – why don’t we swap lives for a year? Eh? What do you think? Great idea, right?
I’ve worked in creative media for many years and I know my way around a camera, I really do. There’s more to me than just a finger, honestly. You know it makes sense! Me and your camera, travelling the world to awesome places and taking fantastic photographs; you in my big apartment in Manchester, ignoring the sirens but twitching at the sound outside because it could be burglars – again – it’s a no brainer! Come on Patrick – I’ll leave my HD 42″ top of the range Panasonic plasma AND my Technics 1210′s, mixer and extensive record collection of hip hop, soul, dance classics and some of the finest deep, soulful, house music ever to have been played at the Miami Music Conference – and if you like football, I’ll arrange for you to get my Manchester City season ticket… You can take my girlfriend too… Is any of this working for you? Say yes; your pictures are making me very jealous. It’s still raining outside.

Thanks for sharing the pics Patrick, they brought back excellent memories for me. I was there in 70/71 we were playing cabaret at the Princess Hotel for 5 weeks! It was a great place to be, and to get paid for being there, and we got to stay in the hotel as well. Wonderful memories. I was there with Lonnie Donegan and sadly all the group have now passed on and I am the last surviving member of the band.

Well! I’m inclined to agree with the title of this blog after looking through these pictures! I wanted to share this blog with you because I love not only his photographs but also his ‘treks’. I’m a trekker at heart and every time I read one of his posts I want to go where he’s been and do what he’s done. That’s a pretty powerful blog! Likely I never will, but Bermuda is now on the top of my list of places I want to visit. I don’t know if I ever will, but at least I have these beautiful photos to dream about. Bermuda is the only place we’ve visited that my hubby will go back to again and again. His philosophy is that there are so many places in the world to see you should always pick somewhere new! Bermuda is truly beautiful, the people are lovely and although you can’t rent a car, it’s a brilliant excuse to ride scooters! These are gorgeous shots.
Personally I would choose heaven over any place but after looking at photos of your Bermuda trip, it certainly is a close second! Gorgeous. You should be a travel agent as well…I think you sold us all.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Bermuda and our pictures were taken with a now very outdated camera, so I’m enjoying these. Bermuda does have that gorgeous blue water, like the Caribbean, but also with the Atlantic wave action you don’t find in the gentler sea. Very pretty.

Did you know …. the white roofs are used to catch rainwater because there are limited desalination facilities on the island? And that they stack people in cemeteries because there isn’t enough room to afford everyone their own plot?
Bermuda is definitely one of my most favorite places on earth!! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!!

I actually named my first album from Bermuda the very same Mark Twain quote! These are truly gorgeous shots. I recognize many of the locations from my trips there and the walk to the Gibbs Lighthouse is great…but not on a super hot day! It’s one of my favorite islands to visit and one I will always revisit. Beautiful work!

I read a Miss Marple where she was in Bermuda. But no I get how horrifying a crime there would be.

Patrick my heart literally skipped a beat when I saw these photos. I used to vacation there back in 2006-2007. That trail with the beach in the background and I think the building is a resort/hotel/restrauant is in my neighborhood. I used to love taking a run or walk up and down that hill. Oh Mark Tawain was right.
