Dogs
Background
I realize that sometimes I post things which aren’t exactly hiking related… well, this is another one of those times. These are some photos I’ve taken of my family’s 3 Scottish Terriers. From left to right, Rufus(youngest and permanently excited), Angus(oldest and always stressed) and Lily (Middle and very sneaky). I have also included a shot I took of a friend’s puppies.

Puppies!
Oh, I love dogs. I know I have a cat, but before the cat there was a dog named Maggie. She was a Border Collie mix. I had her for 12 years. She was such a great dog! Dogs are wonderful!
I love them! They remind me of our black mini-schnauzer, Bocce. Thanks for sharing.
They are such cute dogs! The bottom picture is my favorite with those sweet little faces!
And he/she who loves hiking are infatuated with dogs and cats – just look at how they welcome you back!
Think you’ve captured your guys’ characters really well – bet they’re a bit of a handful

Ooops, forgot to mention those pooches can buy me without money!

Adorable. Just makes you want to run and play with them.
I have a Scottish terrier, wheat-colored. He’s an Angus too (AC/DC).
Anyone else hear the voice of Jack from “Lady and the Tramp”?
I love the personality descriptions that go along with your photos. My little angel/ fifth child/ thief/ nuisance/ high energy Border Collie/ Black Lab mutt, aka Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Lucy for short) joined our family less than a year ago. My first dog. My life has been transformed!
Hi Patrick
You are a very versatile photographer. These are beautiful. I have a Cavalier King Charles, Charlie, very handsome and much loved.
Great work again Patrick….please, please keep the day job!!
Oh! I love your dogs and pictures! Your dogs are adorable!
Oh my gosh! I wish you could take pics of my dogs! Adorable! Love your work!
Beautiful shots of beautiful dogs!
Well that just stoked the fire of wanting a dog again! Love these, especially the one on the bridge.
Those are adorable. I just love your photos. very talented.
Oh my gosh. Those puppies. I’m dying.
You’ve caught your family’s dogs personalities perfectly! Lily looks like she’s about to be bad… those eyes are really something! Beautiful image.
Actually these are just what I needed to see. Thank you for sharing them Patrick.
what great pics! We have a labrador who is always pleased to see us.Its hard to get a good pic of him though.
Oh I love this Patrick! Angus totally looks the oldest and most stressed lol Could I have him? Really wonderful images that capture true motion in such compelling ways! I LOVE dogs and animals in general, but dogs (and those puppies!!!) are so special! xx
Beautiful!!!
Excellent shots!!
I’m allergic to fur-bearing creatures, but when I go hiking on trails I have to greet them all. The open air makes it easier to say hello without a problem. I just wish I could translate their responses. Lovely dogs in these photos!
Especially love the B & Ws, Patrick!
Love the last little doggies
Gorgeous dog pics. Do you have any posts with cats? Kat
These pooch dogs are adorable! Love your pictures!
They’re not hiking? You have captured adornment!
Scotties are adorable! I always think of a British Sergeant-Major when I see them.
I love Scotties and those are some adorable dogs!
Cute as heck..

Dogs/puppies rule.
I love that b & w with the bridge. Great composition; it really captures a mood.
I love puppies!!! They make me so happy!!! Thanks so much sharing! It really made what would’ve been a horrible and stressful day a million times better!
Puppy dogs! Just too cute. Looks like you had a lot of fun with them.
Great shots — so cute! I especially like the first one!
How cute! I am an animal lover through-and-through. I have a mini schnauzer, which is similar in energy level and temperament to Scottish terriers. Job well done on capturing not one but THREE in a single shot.
I think I am in love with your dogs! I had my heart set on owning a Springer Spaniel one day, but I think I have just change my mind
Gorgeous! I wish my dogs are this photogenic. I have a chihuahua who looks like Yoda from starwars, so not pretty.
Wish you could take photos of my hamsters!!!! (sorry about strange request)
THESE ARE PRECIOUS
I love Scotties!!! My grandma had one when I was a kid and he was hilarious…. a very gassy fella..:-))
They are so cute.
Your photography is absolutely beautiful. I can only hope that my images turn out like this one day!
Glad my dog isn’t in the room with me, cause she wold be jealous of how much I awe-d at these pictures.
IDK if anyone else here has noticed, but these dogs remind me so much of Toto, Dorothy’s dog from The Wizard of Oz!
Hi Patrick! Thanks for liking and following my blog. I love your photos of the Scotties, I used to have Westies (West Highland White Terriers) many years ago and loved them dearly I now have a Chihuahua Shitzu mix named Tessa who is the delight of my life. I must say your Bermuda photos are amazing! My love and I enjoy taking photos everywhere we go and I will be sure to show him your post of IR photography. I’m sure it is something that he could do with his fancy camera mine has more limitations. Look forward to seeing more of your photos.
Great photos!
What cuties! Great shots! I’ve tried pet portraiture and can appreciate how difficult it can be,
Fabulous capture; beautiful family! Your description of their personalities will resonate with pet-owners everywhere. It also reminded me of an ancient SNL “commercial” (back in the old days with Aykroyd, Chase and Belushi)… perhaps Rufus needs some “doggie downers” and Angus could benefit from some “puppy uppers.” ; ) Mitchell Kyd
I knew we were kindred spirits! I have two Scotties, one black and one wheaten. Your photos are wonderful, your dog choice superb!
Your low shooting perspective is great for getting into your dog’s world.
Oscar
Oh those pups!!! So so adorable.
Awww, beautiful! The puppies and the photos.
The cuteness meter just went off the charts!! I love Fred’s puppies!
Too cute!
Reblogged this on foodiefashionist and commented:
It has been my dream since I was a 5 or 6 year old kid to have a dog of my own. But my parents were adamant not having furry animals around the house. D: I’m definitely going to get one when I have my own apartment next time.
These dogs are so cute and they look like they could all get into mischief!
I love Scottish Terriers! Great shots.
Sooooooo adorable!
That first photo with the three and your description of their personalities… and they all have the expressions to match, oh so adorable.
Beautiful work, and some of my favorite subject matter. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love dogs! Great photos!!
sooo cuteee!
Hi! You could have a variety of careers, but shooting rich people’s pets is certainly one of them!
Hi, Patrick! First of all I’d like to thank you for following my blog. I really hope you like it. I must say that I’m not that much into animal photos, but these ones are…. wow!!!! Thanks for sharing!
Cute overload, fantastic shots

I love those pictures! Great Patrick!
~F
sooooo love dogs!they’re so cute!
They are ridiculously cute. Amazingly captured, as always.
The personality of each dog really shows in your photograph – they are beautiful animals. They would be fun to paint.
There’s a white Scottie a few doors down, and he always comes running to the fence for a scratch when I go by.
Very friendly, and not at all noisy. If I had a dog…
What can I say Patrick but love love love they are beautiful – so much personality in their eyes and Lily pretending to be ever so cool
Everyone loves dogs! Great photos and fun comments!!
They are adorable! Love the pictures, especially the last one.

If you ever loose your hiking bones you could always fall back on animal photography! Adorable!

All of the photos are just wonderful and the dogs are soooo cute!
Love the bottom photo!
the puppies are really cute, but I also really love the top photo, I wonder how you got them to sit so perfectly..
cute:)
Brilliant, I love the three together, and the description of their personalities!
I used to have a scottie, so you have utterly captured my heart today. I think I feel the tears coming for the passing of Lord Ian Dundee McDivet. He was hilarious, silly, and oh so smart.
They are soooooo cute!
i actually see their personalities as described come out in your photos!
Bro! Just wanted you to know that of the blogs I follow, you are my favorite. You have some seriously fascinating stuff. Love your posts.
Ammmazzzing!!!!
ah, the last picture is so cute!
Hi Patrick,
Thanks for liking my posts. You are a talented photographer/artist. I really appreciate the photos of your Scotties. My family has owned Scotties since the 1960″s. Our current Scottie is a Cancer survivor. He has an enormous heart and will to live. We are so proud of him.
Love your “guys”, too. Be careful of what you feed them. My dog developed bladder stones and we had to have an expensive operation when he was about two years old. He is now on the vet approved “Science Diet – C/D.” At ten years old he has not had a reoccurrence of the stones. Praise God!
Beautiful topics!
Your photography is amazing
Awe, how cute! I had a Schnauzer who was my 3rd child, but after she passed a cute little abused stray found me. He was sitting on my front porch as I came home from work. He is one of those that only a mother could love. He’s on my blog in the pictures on the right… These are so cute!
I loved the pic of your three dogs but actually burst out laughing when I read their individual tag lines. I can see their personalities, as described, in their eyes. Well all except for Lilly of course.
Nice pictures… Dogs are too cute.
Those babies are so cute!! I miss having a dog but I don’t miss taking care of one. I lost my black lab/chow mix about 9 years ago and I still miss her. Her name was Martha.
Patrick, these are great! I especially like the first ‘family photo’!
The cool thing about bloggin is that you can share anything. Perhaps the name of your blog is hikingphoto, bu that in fact is an activity, profession, passion, love. For sure I can see the love in these photos of your dogs. I wonder if I could guess their personalitys by just looking at them. Cheers!!!!
Hi Patrick:
Thanks for your recent visit and liking of Bookshelf: for the Intellectually Curious. Appreciate your support. You continue to post such great, inspiring photography — including this recent photo of the terriers — a departure from your stunning nature work. The expression of the three dogs is what really makes the shot in addition to the great composition. How you managed to coax them to stay there during the photoshoot itself is an accomplishment in itself. Keep up the great work. Cheers. –Alex
Fab pictures, as usual. I recently took a picture of my dog using a tip you gave in your zoo animal post about taking the pictures at eye level and it came out wonderful – even taken with my phone! Thanks for the tip.
Adorable Puppies! great pics!
It is probable
that these are the cutest dogs
I have ever seen.
(Great photos!)
Very nice!
Amazing! He is like a superhero in these shots!
Brilliant work, sir!!
Nice doggie portraits.
Your photos NEVER disappoint. These are lovely.
Who cares if the pics are hiking related!?:-) Those doggies are absolutely adorable! Woof, woof…
These are the oddest looking dogs I’ve seen I think. They’re also… very cute! I’ve shared this for you on Facebook.
Adorable and great photography!!
Awesome photos – and I mean awesome in the literal sense. Also, you may just be my No. 1 fan haha
I really love the first and the third photograph. In the third one the dog just looks so energized and attentive!
I just wanted to thank you for following my blog. Also would like to add…I adore the pictures you have a great eye for the art of the world and your talent shows.
Aww….Angus!
I see a great story in these guys : )
The photos of all the scotties bring back fond memories of my beloved “Bonnie” that passed away recently, after 13 1/2 years with us like our own child. Lovely photos.
thanks for visiting my site!!those are adorable little rascals..tnx for sharing
these look like stuffed animals!! SO CUTE!
I just love that first shot – they look like a trio of Mad Professors. Don’t know why – they just do. A great composition
So cute! Just want to eat ‘em up!
Lily does look really sneaky.
Reblogged this on Heet Pandya.
Just as a matter of interest, living in Scotland (as I do) I would call those dogs Westies, aka West Highland Terriers, rather than Scotties. Nice photos.
How adorable! Lily does look sneaky!
The dogs at the top look so mature
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!! Awesome!
doesn’t matter your subject material – your talent shines through!
unique n with style.. i like ur photography.
Thank you for posting these!!! I adore Scottish Terriers – and your photography too!
<3
Haha, you can see the personalities you described in each Doggy’s face.
These pictures made me smile! Thank you!
Great photos! I can totally tell their personalities!
Oh, I do love them, even though I have a house full of white dogs. Your dogs are beautiful.
terrific pictures i say this with a broad smile
cute….I JUST LOVE DOGS
These little ones made my day!! Thanks for sharing them with us
Man’s best friend
What a brilliant set of shots….especially the first one…I could easily see that selling.
Great 3 Dog shot!! It has a timeless feel. I could easily see it in a magazine
It’s just ridiculous that you take such good pictures of everything, haha. I love the hiking pictures, but i’ve really been enjoying the random ones too
These are amazing! What talent.
Reblogged this on theboymeetsgirl.
Great photos. I’m now pining for dogs and snow!
Oh my gosh the pictures you post on here are amazing!!!!!
Dude. You are one of the best photographers I’ve ever seen. Very unique. Keep it brotha… you’re gonna be a millionaire one day selling your shots!
They’re so cute! We have a Scotty at home too. She looks a bit like a warthog most of the time, but oh is she ever a lover.
Very nice! First thing that came to my mind with the 2 photos of him walking down the grass path looking at the camera and then away… “Squirrel” (the dogs on Pixar’s “UP”).
the funny thing is, I don’t care hugely for dogs, (maybe only because one was taken away from me as a kid) but anyway – somehow you make me want to be in those photographs playing with such personalities. LA
I’m glad you shared them – it certainly made me smile along with your descriptions of each dog’s personality.
P.S. Thanks for subscribing to my blog!
Nancy
It’s a fantastic photograph. As a dog trainer- I see the personalities you’ve described! I think they are a lovely breed of dog. Thank you for sharing.
I actually know for a fact that black animals are the most difficult to photograph. Really. Who knew?
Stellar.
And, although, I am a crazy cat lady (it’s not a choice, they find you) I am, in reality, a dog trapped in a lady’s body! “Hey! Hi! Sweet collar! Your people seem nice, too! Wanna go for walkies?!” Uh, yeah. *shrug* WAY too friendly. Even looked into a species change operation. No can do.
^ ^ love the color so much :X those puppies are really cute, too ! Especially the 2nd pic – how cheeful he (or she ?
) is !
Love your work!
Great shots. Not easy to photograph black dogs.
A couple of the dog photos made me chuckle
I love the 3rd one
they are soooo cute! awesome job(:
Awwwww, such beautiful furry babies
Simply adorable! Thanks for warming my heart this morning! xo
Your pictures are UHmazing! God’s blessed you with a wonderful talent!! Don’t EVER stop using it! =)
Nice picture of those Scotties. We used to know some people who had a Scottie. It was a really smart dog. Very cute too. Thanks for posting.
I have always thought that I might like to be a parent to a Scottie.
Nice. Really liked the 3 peeking over the fence. Adorable!
I’m a black cat person at heart (no, not a witch, just a cat lover!) but these little lovelies look like they’re having the BEST time .. and black is hard to capture in such a light-filled way. Gorgeous, great job!
Absolutely devine…it’s so difficult to catch the essence of an animal but you’ve captured it beautifully.
Love the pics, Patrick. Very stunning. Total dog lover so these are my favs. Looking forward to more posts.
Love how the personality in the faces comes out in the first photo!
Beautiful pictures!!
i think you need to beef up the doggie photos. ;>) consider taking shelter shots. our rescue organization wouldn’t find homes as quickly without great photographers like you!
I have loved going through your pictures! I absolutely love the dogs!! Incredible. You have a wonderful gift!! thanks for sharing it with the world!
The black and white of your three dogs was amazing, loved it!
