I took this photograph a few years ago on my trip to Peru. You can see Wayna Picchu towering behind the ruins. It’s a relatively easy hike up to the top of this peak and there are some amazing views.
Wow, gorgeous photo.
Incredible! Built by aliens? Ha Ha
You must be in really good shape, some others I’ve heard say it was tricky to breath up there. You’re so right, amazing view and photo makes it worthwhile. Did you hike on a tour or go out on your own?
I love this angle, with the ravine and mountains surrounding the site captured too – great lighting, just gorgeous
I wanna go take me with ya
Sent from my iPhone
What an incredible view :).
An awesome view.
Awesome, great shot.
Breathtaking! And from the first comment, it appears that description could be applied literally too!
A location that never disappoints.
I loved Peru!! Unfortunately, when we were there in July of 2006 there was lots of gang war activity in the Machu Picchu area, along with hijacking tour buses, etc. So our group did not get the opportunity to go : ( We did, however, get to travel into the Amazon Basin a bit up in Tarrapoto and spent a day at a remote waterfall, which we had to hike to…it was FREEZING! Good Memories though…can’t wait to go back one day, and when we do we will def be stopping in Machu Picchu! No matter what…lol : ) Thanks for posting!!
I’m a bit sad to have seen this, because I feel like now when I finally make my way over to Macchu Picchu I’m going to be expecting all of my photos to look this glorious…
Beautiful lighting in that shot, though.
Awesome. I love how the light makes the green so intense.
Holy wow . . .Would i ever Love to stand and walk around in there. Beautiful.
Picture perfect Patrick. The vista looks grand and clearly a bit a of signature of yours. It’s not easy to capture that on small screen but you do it. Is it because everything’s in focus? It’s a cracking shot. Do you have any issues at altitude on the camera? Is it cold? yaf

That has been on my list of places to go. Maybe next year. That is an amazing picture.
Beautiful view. Great shot!
Wow awesome photo! Machu Picchu is one of my top five places to visit…I will go someday! I’ve been to Lima, but I was working, so I didn’t have much time to enjoy the sights.
Wow. It’s simply super. Beautiful and great shot.
Your photography is so beautiful it looks unreal. A bit envious of your adventures but so happy for your experiences in exploration!
Beautiful!!! Makes me want to go there.
I’ve seen tons of photos of this amazing spot – and this has to be the one to top them all. That lighting is phenomenal – what an incredible shot, Patrick!
Awesome. Truly amazing pictures and very inspirational. Great post!
Ah yes, the most awesome place I ever visited. Great photo.
For some reason, when I saw Machu Picchu first from my mailbox, I connected it to the coffee brand, hehe.
But instead, am awed by the fabulous shot you took of Wayna Picchu.
How fortunate you are to experience that atmosphere there – the air, the smell, the touch, et al!!
Fabulous shot. Nice light and shade
Nice shot! One day I hope to make my way there….
I hope someday I can see Machu Picchu by may own eyes too!
I love how the clouds contrast with that “blue stuff”.
i hiked there several years ago too. but my pictures weren’t as stunning as yours. beautifully captured! just as beautiful as in person.

Now, your photo just made me excited and giddy 😀
I love the way the clouds are bringing added drama to an already dramatic view. Wonderful
Is Machu Picchu on an angle like that? Or is it the curve from such a wide angle lens used?
Wow! That is beautiful!
Lovely place and a great photo. Really must needs visit this site at some point in life
That is really something. Beautiful shot.
Whoa. Gorgeous light.
Just bumping it further up my must list!

First, thank you for stopping by my blog! I appreciate it so much. Thank you for your creativity; it’s refreshing.
You eye brings me great pleasure…I travel all kinds of places with you….thanks again!

Absolutely beautiful! You are very lucky to be able to enjoy travelling!
this is too beautiful!
OMG. I’m speechless.
Amazing photo! You are talented!
Beautiful shot Patrick! I love the way you’ve captured that special light… I was at MP last May – spent two days there while staying in AC down the mountain. It was one of the most amazing (sacred) places I’ve ever visited, and so quiet. Completely awe-inspiring…
Amazing picture! I love checking in to enjoy all the fabulous photography.
I’ve seen photos of this place many times, but not like this! Very unusual with the light so focused on the ruins. I also love the bright green/navy(cobalt)blue color contrasts. A stunning image (as many of yours are)!
Gorgeous photo, I’ve been to Machu Picchu and it was such an incredible experience
Gorgeous shot. I was lucky enough to go to MP around 15 years ago. This takes me back and reminds me of the majesty.
Truly amazing! Your photography is beautiful.
Looks as beautiful as I remember it. Great shot!
It must be an amazing feeling to be there and see that because the photograph gives me goose bumps. Make you wonder about the civilization that lived there.
It’s on my bucket list — gorgeous photo.
Your images are outstanding – a balm to the soul! So happy to have found you, or did you find me? 😉 No matter – just happy to delight in the visual feast.
It’s always wonderful to visit your blog and see your new photos. This view of Machu Picchu is amazing. Is it really as big and sprawling as it looks in this photo?
The lighting on this is so crisp. Did you alter it using photo software? If not, truly breath taking.
Hey thanks for looking at my blog! Lovely photo!
I found this hard to believe, and then i read your caption and it’s still hard to believe. haha you’re an absolutely stunning photographer (: I’m envious of the places you’ve been. Keep it up !
Awesome capture of the light and color! Thank you for providing a view I can only see from my monitor at this time. It definitely makes me mentally travel there, and hopefully see it for real someday! Thanks for liking “hell froze over my little patch of heaven” post!
Awesome photo. I loved discovering Machu Picchu and I have a post to share with you if you’re interested. Keep up the great work. Cheers.

Looks like a dream..
Perfect light! Ypu’ve managed to turn this “post-card” picture into something new! Great!
Thanks for reading and liking my post. Wow some great photos!
Hey Patrick… I wanted to let you know I absolutely LOVE this blog and all your stunning photography. With each glance, my bucket list of all the places I want to go, to experience grows… I also wanted to thank you for all your support of my blog, I greatly appreciate it.
I was there a few years ago! It was the most amazing view. However, you bring it to life in this picture.
It looks like it came out of a movie set which that has high quality green screen.. :D, love it, its wait for it….. AWESOME, bleepme.wordpress.com
I made that climb decades ago, when tourism was low-key and very few other people were about. Thanks for reminding me of how glorious it was. You really captured it. (All your Rockies experience must help!)
Awesome photography. I do sometimes wonder if I will have the fitness level to climb there and witness it with my own eyes. I hope I can in my upcoming RTW journey.
Great photo – hard to balance the light and dark areas. Maybe add slightly more light to the dark areas, and bring down the highlights in the light central area? Otherwise, beautiful photo that makes me want to go there!
Beautiful! It’s on my bucket list for places to visit!
This picture is amazing. I’ve always wanted to visit Machu Picchu. One day my firend… One day!
Beautiful pictures. Always wanted to visit this place!
it’s incredible !
I have been wanting to visit Manchu Picchu for some time, and you beautiful shot definitely motivates me to plan more seriously.
And just like that, visiting Peru has been added to my bucket list.
I’ve always wanted to go to Machu Picchu. Great photographs!
I have to see this place in person! I can only imagine what it must feel like to be there.
I was there a few years ago… I think we should swap Machu Picchu Photos! (Love this photo, by the way) I didn’t get to explore as much as I, and my camera, wanted to. It looks like you got to a much higher vantage point than I did. I am jealous! Thank-you for sharing your perspective on the world!
visiting this is part of my bucket list… absolutely lovely.
I think it’s impossible to take a shot of this place, from that vantage point, and it doesn’t look so good.
This is so good.

This is a gorgeous picture of a place that I really want to visit, sometime in the near future. Although I can’t get over how you managed to trek and lug a DSLR at the same time… bravo!
This is an incredible shot Patrick, looks like it was a great hike too! Definitely going to add this place to my bucket list 😀
Your photos are absolutely gorgeous!
Another WOW moment for me!
I’m breathless after viewing this aerial shot. I love the contrast of the colors.
Wow took my breath away!
Damn, bro, you definitely got skills. As someone who’s afraid of heights, I’m too chicken sh_t to for shots like this.
Spectacular! My husband was able to visit there and it was an unbelievable view!
Neat. Both my husband and I really want to go. One of my closest friends took a group of high school students down this past summer and had the best time. She took an unbelievable amount of pics and they were all so fun to look through.
That is a proper stunning photo!
So nice 😉
Thanks for sharing!
This is truly beautiful.
[must have been hell living there if you suffered from vertigo]
This is just awesome. Looks like the sky is rolling on the mountains 😉

This guy does THE best photography! You should check it out!
Nice…Maybe I will get to go there before I leave Peru. It looks so high up. I went on a hike to Capua and was out of breath within minutes. I had a great experienced crew with me who helped me survive that part, and I was able to make it through the whole hike. It was such a reward! I got to see my very first waterfalls up close and personal. I even ventured into the water to feel the spray. Thanks for sharing
Hay Butterfly Jewel, It may look high bet it is actually lower than Cusco, so many people think it will be a tough hike when they reach Cusco because of the altitude, not realizing that it is actually lower in elevation. Hope you can find time to visit Machu Picchu while you are in Peru, it is well worth it.
Wow! Nice shot!
ahhhhh it’s on my bucket list… I want to go ! I want to go ! I want to go! I want to go ! you just make me want to go there even more! great photo! lucky you!
Wow!!! This looks awesome! I always wanted to go there… One day I will
Sounds like an oxymoron…..easy hike and vertical peak! LOL…. It is a gorgeous shot!
Stunning photos Patrick…. I was at MP a couple years ago and felt the magic of the place – spent two days walking around the ruins and the trails. Yours is the best image I’ve ever seen of this sacred place, brilliant!
Gorgeous pic! curious to know how you manage to get it without all the tourists around. I found it really hard to just get the ruins without all the people around it. It must have been really early in the morning.
Truly amazing photo….
Loved the angle you took, most people tend to shoot the front side, which tends to emphasize the face in the mountain a little more. Love this angle though as it shows the river and gives a little more perspective as to the height.
Amazing Shot! One day I will get to see this view with my own eyes!
I really have a hard time deciding whether your photography is more awesome or the places you explore…Your blog is like a must do before you die list. The beauty captured from your lens is inspirational. And I am so proud to see Canada depicted for the majestic beauty that she truly is. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent, Peace.
Probably the best photo of MP I’ve seen.
Definitely, Peru is such a wonderful spot for enjoying holidays with family and friends. You can enjoy beautiful landscape and Lake Site view. Apart from this, you can easily navigate yourself from one destination to other destination, as you can get the best travel experience in Peru.
Its my dream to go to Macchu Picchu some day! Again, amazing photography!
Unreal scene! You get around don’t ya, LOL.
Such an amazing place. Love your photo, it puts Machu Picchu into better perspective than more common compositions.
This is a beautiful picture of a place I hope to visit someday.
Truly AMAZING photos!!! I am head over heels for the northern lights/stars/clouds pictures!
Wow, I would love to go there just to experience it all, the fresh air. Thanks for sharing this photo.
My husband and I went on our honeymoon to Peru. Machu Picchu was every bit as magical and majestic as it is purported to be! Your photo perfectly captures the beauty of the place.
Me encanta esta foto!!
(I love this picture)
I feel like I want to be there waking and breeding……
NIce capture… (Y) Nature never fails to surprise me.

This really brings back memories. Some very nice, some about me being under the influence of some bad medication for the asthma attacks I was having. But yeah, just quickly wanted to say that your photography is truly inspiring!
Wow. This place I must visit.
You nailed this shot mate! Im going next May and hoping to get one as good as this.
