Water Drop Photography II
Background
I’ll start by saying that there are no Photoshop tricks in these images; the only adjustments done are for exposure/contrast and some cleanup of the image. All colour is from gels on the flashes and food colouring in the water. Here is link to an excellent article by Jose Maria Castelo on a similar setup to mine: http://mural.uv.es/jocasa/dripping/dripping.html

How do you do that?? Now that is fast film! So super cool!
They’re very nice shots. Its amazing how much they look like blown glass. Are you only taking that one shot, or taking say a hundred to get the timing just right? Thanks for sharing.
These pictures are so amazing!
I have no words…Blown away completely.
absolutely stunning. we didn’t have this much fun stuff when i went to photography school. it was the “dark” ages. ;>)
Those photos are stunning. Well done.
Looks like blown glass. Magic.
How is the last one a blue funnel with purple water? Fascinating!
This is amazing.
My word that is beautiful.
WOW!!!
The question now stands… “How did you do it?”
These are beautiful! They remind me of hand blown glass vases. Delicate and so colorful.
Too fun! Love the clarity.
Stunning shots. So sharp!! I love them. I tried this a few weeks back now but now im tempted to get the water pan out again and try again with the food colour. You have done an amazing job as usual. Thanks for sharing your great work

Hi, thanks for the feedback on my blog. I think that your images are absolutely amazing. I do some photography too from time to time. Have a look if you like on http://www.facebook.com/SurbitonPhotography?ref=hl
Like everyone else, I love these. I’d be really interested to see your set up!
VERY COOL PHOTO!! I can see why you stopped by my post “Falling upwards”…it was a very cool dream I had. This is what I imagine water would look like if it could fly
Very whimsical and mysterious. You have a gift for capturing more than just a photo. The world needs more artists who grab a concept and make it come to life. Good job.
These are very good.
Incredible! I also didn’t know that water drops made different shapes. I wonder why. But I don’t wonder enough to learn enough physics to understand it.
Love these!!
Just purchased myself an SLR – hope to learn how to take at least semi-decent photos!

The next step is getting some projectile photos
Amazing images.
Exsquisite, Patrick.
Fabulous!!
I love these photographs, how in the world were you able to capture them? It looks like a pea falling into a blown glass plate and bowl. Just beautiful.
Magical! The colors! The shapes! Like glass coming alive and dancing
Patrick ~ I love your photography even more now. Just beautiful! I am sure you took 1000 images for that special shot. Nice! I have tried to take a photo of a star-filled night like you have (in another post). It takes the right camera and a lot of patience to do your work-extremely fast exposure to extremely slow exposure. I can tell you have fun doing your work. It is obvious you found your passion.
That is so cool. Water drops remind us of really, how small and perfect every little molecule of life is. Thanks for sharing such insightful photography, Patrick.
Oh my goodness these are gorgeous!!
Wow … they are stunning …. How do you do it??? Now you are using even 3 colors … very creative … the top one my favorite. Just love the shades …
That’s crazy amazing…really cool!
Beautiful!
Amazing! Both of those Water Droplet posts are incredible! The colors are awesome.
These are gorgeous. I’m also mystified by the differences in color. Well done!
I’m a colour junkie, so in addition to the stunning crispness, the hues are magical! I like the blue best.
I echo everyone else. Beautiful, rich, bold and technically perfect.
They reminded me of the old green and blue glass pieces I remember as a child! Stunning.
awesome!
Brilliant. The composition is impressive enough but the color and clarity make this stupendous.
Love these. They’re so cool!
really cool!
Breathtaking. Reminds me to slow down and truly “see” what’s around me.

Patrick,
Have been looking through your archives and enjoying your sensitive photographic eye. Also, appreciate a bit of story-telling to go along with the photos. So many of the photos jump off the page but the ones of nature, friends and other people living life especially sparkle. Maybe “Canadian Hiking Photography” needs a new name? Your blog covers so much more. Appreciate the creativity and the skill…..all the best…..in peace, kai
This is absolutely amazing. There is pure beauty in nature, but by far I have a thing for the sky and water! Once I settle in my own place I’m definitely getting prints from you!
