Two Jack Lake and Lake Minnewanka
Directions
Take Highway 1 from Calgary and turn right at the first Banff exit. From here follow the signs for Two Jack Lake.
Background
I passed by Lake Minnewanka on my way to Two Jack Lake and took a few shots while it was still dark. The cold temperatures caused an icy fog/mist to rise off the still unfrozen lake.
Once I arrived at Two Jack Lake, I began to make my way around the icy shore trail.
After the sun had risen, I made my way back to Minnewanka to take a few more photos.
After trying to leave, my path was blocked by a rather smug Bighorn Sheep.

I want to always be where your pictures are.
These are simply spectacular. You have an eye for incredible beauty and the skill to capture it.
Awesome smugness:)
I love the half submerged tree.
And the house… is it floating!? very strange… but good for photos
Wow, I am always so impressed by your photography! Beautiful.

The first pic is simply awesome. Well done!
Those are otherworldly!
Caption for the sheep “You wanna leave? Yeah right! I dare ya!”
LOL
Great shots. My fave is the icy cold first one with the “cabins” on the lake. Although the one just before the sheep is also excellent. I also like the tree bathing in the lake image. Nice work.

I usually hold words in high regards, but when I was looking at your pictures here I was barely skimming your captions I was so enticed at looking at the images. So when i saw this caption
“After trying to leave my path was blocked by a rather smug Bighorn Sheep.”
i actually read ” rather SMALL bighorn Sheep” . SO when i saw the picture I was like OH that’s not small! Lol silly me.
these are so surreally beautiful. thanks for the sharing. the expression on the sheep is like he is grinning .

I love your pictures… these are great. Especially the sheep
These are beautiful! You should submit these photos to Cabin Porn (http://freecabinporn.com), a site I often swoon over, along with yours.
Maybe it’s Halloween, but the first few photos had a eerie quality for me. Then the bighorn smirked and said, “Lighten up, Chicken.”
Beautiful photos – love them all!
Ever ever ever Beautiful. What else can i say . . .The pic. of the house on the water reminds me of an old black and white movie that i once saw. The fallen tree is Lovely as well.
I absolutely love your photos. What lenses do you carry with you to capture the scenic landscapes as well as the close-up of adorable Mr. Smug?

The Rocky Mountain sheep shot was as if you asked for a seasoned pose and with a wry smile, he complied. “Crazy photographers,” says his face.

till then i will enjoy my virtual travels with you.
More great shots, and if I delve far enough into my old photos I too have pictures taken here. Just how do you keep the camera going when its so cold? My Canon 20D battery gave up the ghost after about 20 minutes standing on this ice covered lake.
Gorgeous pictures Patrick! That second last is just breath-taking!

That tree in the water and the panorama that follows are simply stunning, then the last two… Clouds, oh, I am in heaven! And that sheep, his smile, good grief!

Now that is a cabin on the lake.
Neely, your photography is great, but your food photography is GREAT!
Of course the scenery photos are beautiful (as always) but I really like the pic of the sheep. He is stunning and it looks as if he is laughing at you!

You have quite the eyes for photography, and i must say your brave walking around the great out doors like a polar-bear. Great shots, especially with the big horn and the ‘Dragon on the water’ as my niece called the half frozen plant life in the lake.

Patrick: The other day I gave a “Like” to your Ram. Thanks for liking my Winter Solitude Image today…when I logged in through WordPress to my Elm Drive Images a full page of your lake scene was the first thing to come up. I liked it but have no idea how it happened. Do you? Also for the first time WordPress showed avatars or thumbnail images of some of the people who follow me on WordPress and mentioned they had also forwarded the post by tweet to 24 people who follow me on Twitter. I knew, of course, my followers automatically get a copy of my posts but had never seen them in the left panel alongside my post after I posted it. The one that tells you how many images you’ve posted. This was all in the dashboard area…No one else could see it…If this is confusing it’s because I’m an old man!
Stunning work.
This will doubtlessly sound ignorant, but why is the house built on the water? It looks cool, just wondered the reasoning behind it…
Your work is absolutely amazing! I don’t know whether I am more jealous of your surroundings or your talent in capturing them in photography.
I especially love the platform in the lake, the one where the platform seems to be floating in the sky.
so incredibly beautiful! That floating cabin is ethereal. Amazing work, Patrick.
Simply breath taking! You are very lucky to have such beauty around you and very talented to capture it so well.

A stunning confrontation with coldness and the challenge of nature overcomes me to see those impressive pics. They captured purity of life so close to feel what is true.

Wow. I’m going to have to make a trip to Canada. These are stunning!
I smile at beautiful portraits of places I hiked/camped. The winter photos a treat, usually see the ‘summertime’ side of the Rockies as tourist playground.
Amazing as always…..made me shiver a little just looking at them. The last 2 are my favorites
So beautiful…I really enjoyed these images:)
Every longitude and latitude of this planet has wondrously beautiful landscapes but there is absolutely nothing like the Canadian wilderness. It’s often harsh and mystifying but always remarkable.
I love your photography.

The area I live in is gorgeous in some ways, but the landscape lacks any real sense of dramatic beauty. Your pictures are completely inspiring in that regard.

That house? Cabi? It is simply gorgeous out there on the lake? Have you ever visited it? Is it someone’s private home or is it used for something else? It may be a lovely structure, but it is you photography that brings it to life. Always enjoy seeing your work. Thanks for sharing

Photo of the bighorn sheep made me laugh. What with the non-predatory side-set eyes, he looks completely out of it…the mid-chew photo doesn’t help his case much!
Amazing shots!

We’ve been there a few times over the years but never at this time of year. It’s beautiful and I’ll bet the crowds are gone,or are they?
These photos are breath taking. The scenery with it’s quiet waters, rocky escarpments and diffused light is awesome.
The phrase is, “Life isn’t measured by how many breaths you take, but by the times your breath is taken.” These are indeed some of those “breath taken” moments. I especially like the sunrise withe the two trees, and the floating houses at the base of the mountain. Is that a s**t-eating grin on the big horn?
Amazing!!!
Great photos, the kind I would like to get!
Gorgeous and chilling! And you are right, the Bighorn does look smug.
Amazing; love the floating house kind of look!
Fantastic photos Patrick, what a start to my Monday morning, thanks a lot.

How, pray tell, can a partially submerged tree look so beautiful?? Superb artistry, Patrick, as usual. : )
Dude this beautiful!
I visited Minnewanka and Two Jack last summer and ran into the same problem of having the exit blocked by sheep on my way out as well! Apparently they can get quite vicious, but I couldn’t resist taking some photos!
