White sands is the largest gypsum dune in the world. More information can be found at wikipedia

A thunderstorm near by made for interesting light and the temperature was actually pretty cool with the wind. We got a used sledding disc from the gift shop to try on some the dunes as well.

Paige was… slightly cold.

Did you skim your feet across the surface and hear the neat noise the sand makes?

That place never ceases to amaze me… People totally freaked out when I showed them a picture of me in shorts and a tank top standing barefooted in what looks like snow… đŸ™‚

As always, you have put together a compelling photo collection. I love the contrast between the white sand and the other elements.

Great photography, as always. Not having visited White Sands, I had no idea why they named it. Now we know!

What great pictures. Did you actually catch any speed on your sled? My husband & I tried sledding but it seemed like we really weren’t going anywhere!
